Pottery making is one of the oldest of human crafts. Prehistoric man shaped crude bowls and other items by hand. One of the first inventions made by man was the potter's wheel. The early potter's wheel turned as the potter worked a foot pedal. The modern wheel is not much different. Indeed all the processes used in making pottery - molding, casting, modeling, glazing and firing - are almost the same today as they were hundreds of years ago - The only difference is that the machines, ovens and other divices have changed. All of my pottery items are handmade, signed and dated. Each pottery item is fired twice. The first firing removes the moisture from the clay. The vessel is then hand glazed and returned to the kiln for the second firing. The second firing hardens the piece and brings out the color of the glaze. I make pottery as a way of relaxing and to satisfy abasic need to be creative.
